Mountain Craft states and examines the principles underlying all mountaineering. It was also the first book to stress the importance of the psychological factor in all joint adventure and to deal with problems of leadership and management.
The new edition has been completely revised. The sections dealing with rock climbing, with Guides, with the use of 'artificial aids, ' with equipment, have been brought up to date in relation to modern developments; and the chapters describing specific ranges have been dropped as no longer needed.
A well-known critic has said of it: "it is the only textbook I know which a layman can read throughout with peronal entertainment--because it is literature."
