The book is significant in that it is not only written by Captain Noel, who was the official photographer on the expedition, but includes the best of his images from the pioneering ventures. Noel would later achieve fame for his film, titled The Epic of Everest. The book also includes appendices with Noel's commentary on the modern developments which made Everest more accessible for future generations of mountaineers.
